The End of Sabbatical

Our last day, we checked out of the hotel, checked Amit and Mandeep into their next place (they were staying for one more day), and went to the Hyatt for the brunch we looked forward to so much the day before. It was really good. Eggs Benedict, custom omelette, tropical fruit, Greek yogurt, French toast, pancakes, bacon, sausage, bread pudding, pastries. How much more can one eat?!

We hung out there for a bit longer before heading to the airport, effectively wrapping up sabbatical. Our flight home was uninteresting. We got back to Seattle around 9pm that Friday night. Inderpal Bhaiya picked us up once the airport was no longer on lockdown. Apparently some drunk lady caused a commotion by going backwards through a security line. We were fortunate to be let off of our plane and not stuck in a tram like some people reportedly were for more than an hour. This caused a huge backup at Arrivals, but otherwise we came away unscathed.

Khivan had her homeopathy class the next couple of days. I spent Saturday morning enjoying brunch with the fam, and then hung out with Khivan on her long lunch break. Then I went back and took a nap and then it was time to pick her up from class. It was a really fast day! I don’t remember what we did that evening now, but I imagine we spent it hanging out with the family in some fashion.

The next day, Khivan decided she was going to leave class at lunch so that we could get home at a decent hour and catch up on laundry and stuff before she had to head back to work the next morning. I still had another three days off, so I wasn’t in a rush, but I wanted to get home too after having been away for 2.5 weeks. While she was in class that morning, I went to Khalsa Gurmat School and enjoyed listening in on the various classes, discussions, and lectures going on. It’s always so inspiring to see so many young people so motivated, interested, and invested in Sikhi and Punjabi. It was also really fun to see how many passionate Seahawks fans were in the crowd, and how some teachers (cough cough Molina Didi) would interrupt class to call out students who were wearing Seahawks gear.

The last few days at home were spent catching up on chores. I went through mail, paid bills, did yard work, rested, enjoyed myself, and geared up mentally to go back to work on Thursday. It was a great sabbatical, and had the perfect ending. It was a nice, calm, stress-free transition back into the working world. I couldn’t have planned it, and it couldn’t have worked out, any better!
